James N. Herr, 79, of Pilgrim Drive passed away Monday evening October 24, 2011 at the Mennonite Home. Born in Millersville, he was the son of the late Rudolph G. and Fannie Brubaker Herr on July 10, 1932. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madelin Grigsby Herr in 2002.
Jim attended Penn Manor High School where he played basketball and enlisted in the United State Marine Corps following high school. He served from 1951 to 1954 in the USMC with being station in French Morocco and Quantico. He had worked for RCA and then worked the majority of his life as a house painter in the Lancaster area. In later years, he worked as a funeral assistant for Melanie Scheid.

Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Millersville, where he once was a trustee and usher, Lititz American Legion, enjoyed bowling and was often found at the Conestoga Wagon and Stonemill Plaza Subway in most recent years.

He is survived by a son, James Neil, husband of Erla Herr, Mountville and daughters, Debra Zook, Mount Joy, Pamela E., wife of Thomas Hall, Lancaster and Sheron, wife of Neil Jones, St. Petersburg, FL., grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Elvin R., husband of Helen, Lancaster, Jay L., husband of Doris, Washington Boro and twin brother Earl M., husband of Gladys, Lancaster; sisters, Alta M. Herr, Millersville, M. Jeanette, wife of Kenneth Dombach, Newport, DE, and Bonnie L., wife of Ronald Huth, South Hampton, MA. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, C. Eugene and C. Richard Herr; and sisters, Frances V. Burkhart and Dorothy I. Herr.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jim's funeral service from the Chapel of the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster on Saturday October 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Mary Burger, officiating. Friends will be received at the Mennonite Home on Friday evening, October 28 from 6 to 8 PM and on Saturday from 9 to 10 AM. Interment will be held in the Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made in Jim's memory to First UMC Millersville or to Millersville Meals on Wheels, both located at 121 N. George St., Millersville, PA 17551.
