Willard D. Railing, 91 of Pequea passed away Monday evening, August 15, 2016 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Home with his family by his side. Born on April 27, 1925 in Mt. Nebo, he was the son of the late J. Andrew and Edna Shenk Railing. He was the beloved husband of Bertha F. Erb with who he married on January 28, 1950.
Willard was a life long member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He loved the outdoors, especially sawing and splitting wood and hunting. He believed it was important to stay active and did so as long as he was able. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were very dear to him. He enjoyed hunting, playing games and doing projects with them. He encouraged his grandchildren to hunt and he especially loved when they were able to get a deer. Willard was a heavy equipment operator and retired from Lancaster County Solid Waste Mangement Company. He enjoyed raising cattle and planting crops on their farm. This was the first year that he didn't raise sweet corn on their farm. He enjoyed watching baseball and Nascar.
Willard is survived by his lovely wife, Bertha E. and their children, W. Dale husband of Donna S. Railing and Alan L. husband of Kathleen F. Railing, both of Willow Street and Jane R. wife of Jerry Morrison of Quarryville; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Warren; brothers, John, Rodney, Glenn and sister, Audrey Campbell.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Willard's funeral service on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 2PM from the Mt. Nebo UM Church, 673 Martic Heights Drive, Pequea, PA with Pastor Chandler Evans officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Friday from Noon until 2PM. Interment will be held in the church's adjoining cemetery. Please omit flowers, memorial remembrances may be made in Willard's memory to the Building Fund at Mt. Nebo UM Church.
