Eugene P. Sando, 89, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday September 9, 2017 at Juniper Village, Lebanon. He was the husband of the late Mary S. Lesher Sando who passed away in 2015. Gene was born in Lebanon on October 7, 1927, son of the late Harry W. and Rosa E. Gingrich Sando.
He was a graduate of Lebanon High School in 1944 and Hershey Junior College in 1954. Gene was an Army Veteran of World War II and an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Gene was retired from the security department of Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was a member of St. Mark's UCC, Lebanon where he was active in the choir, Hymn Singers, as a deacon and sexton. Gene was a member of Mt. Lebanon Lodge #226 F&AM, Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg, life member of Lebanon VFW Post #23, Annville American Legion, DAV and National Order of Trench Rats. He was a former 5th Ward West Judge of Elections.
Gene is survived by daughters, Barbara, wife of Don Hynum of Fredericksburg, Marilyn, wife of Edward Reppert of Lebanon; grandchildren, Jonathan, husband of LeTonya Raiger, Meredith, wife of Sean Myers, Sarah Reppert, Christopher R., husband of Sue Hynum, Michael A., husband of Heather Hynum; great grandchildren, Malachi Raiger, Izayah Raiger and Charleigh Myers, Allison Hynum, Madison Hynum, Ruth Hynum and Dylan Hynum. He was preceded in death by brothers Robert G., Harry D., Arthur, L. Gordon and George G. Sando.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gene's funeral services on Friday, September 15, 2017 following the Masonic services at 11:00 AM from Porterfield-Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, Ltd, 890 Isabel Dr., Lebanon, (next to Quentin Circle) with Rev. David Jones officiating. A viewing will be held Friday, September 15, 2017 beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. A Masonic Service conducted by Mt. Lebanon Lodge #226 will be performed at 11AM Friday. Interment will be made in Kimmerling's Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution in Gene's memory may be made to the Hospice Unit of the Lebanon VA Medical Center, 1700 S. Lincoln Ave, Lebanon, PA 17042.
