Charles L. "Charlie" Henry, 83, of Willow Street passed away Thursday morning, March 2, 2017 at Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born in Washington Boro, PA on December 20, 1933 he was the son of the late Charles and Adeline Stroble Henry.
Charlie served in the US Air Force from December 1952 to December 1956. After the service, he worked for Boeing Aircraft where he worked on the first 3 commercial planes that Boeing made. Charlie enjoyed working as a young man for Abe Dombach, Charles Chips and Andersen Pretzel Bakery. He retired after 37 years in 2004 as a truck driver for Penn Dairies.
Charlie loved attending auctions and for years he would set up at flea markets selling his treasures. He would be found every Saturday at a different Fire Company for breakfast. He had each and every Saturday committed to breakfast and supporting the fire companies. He also enjoyed taking paddleboat cruises. Charlie was a member of Teamsters Union #771 and American Legion Post #34.
Charlie is survived by his son, Michael A. Henry of Lititz, grandchildren, Victoria, Curtis and James; and his sister, Gloria J. Chubb of Lititz. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Charles L. Henry, Jr., brother, Roger Henry; sisters, Betty Jane Henry, Carrie Hess and twin sisters, Ethel and Vivian Henry.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Charlie's funeral service on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 1PM from the Melanie B. Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, The Gundel Chapel, 3225 Main Street, Conestoga, PA with Rev. Dr. Richard Rimert officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from Noon until 1PM. Intement will be held in Conestoga Memorial Park where full military honors will be accorded.
