Berneda J. Greider, 84, of Millersville, passed away Tuesday morning, June 13, 2017 at Conestoga View with her family by her side. Born on October 8, 1932 in Pequea Twp., Lancaster County, Berneda was the daughter of the late Milton D. and Helen Corrigan Charles.
Known to many as "Bernie," she was a 1950 graduate of Penn Manor High School. She worked for Millersville University in the Bookstore and for Homestead Village as a receptionist. For several years, she enjoyed living on Hilton Head Island, before returning to Lancaster County. She was a member of Green Hill UM Church, Conestoga.
Bernie loved to keep in touch and maintained long-standing friendships, some from high school. She enjoyed joking with her grandchildren. Many knew of her sweet tooth and her love of traveling.
Bernie will be missed by her daughter, Rev. Dr. Kathleen J. Greider, wife of Jane Heckles of Claremont, CA; her son, Thomas H., husband of Kristine Greider of Lancaster; former daughter-in-law, Susan E. Sneath, wife of Dennis Sneath of Mountville; grandchildren, Emily, Kelsey, wife of Derek Ridinger, Benjamin, and Derek Greider. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia C., wife of J. Melvin Witmer of Hilton Head, SC, her identical twin sister, Beverly L. Campbell of Ephrata, her brother, Richard F., husband of Elaine Charles of Willow Street, nieces Vicki Thornton, Connie Hall, and Joan Johnson, and nephew Brad Witmer. Bernie was preceded in death by her son, Michael E. Greider, brother, James H. Charles, sister, Shaaron H. Charles, and her beloved Sheltie, Winston.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Berneda's funeral service on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 11AM from the Melanie B. Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, The Gundel Chapel, 3225 Main Street, Conestoga, PA with Chaplain Shayna Watson officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 to 11AM. Interment will be held in the Green Hill UM Church Cemetery, Conestoga. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial remembrances may be made in Bernie's memory to Lancaster Hospice and Community Care. For other information, please call 717-872-1779.
