Barbara Herschkowitz, 83, of Cleona, Pennsylvania, died on Monday, February 26, 2018.

She was born on December 31, 1934 in Warren, Pennsylvania to her late parents, Verna (Spear) Lightner and Roger Lightner. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Erwin Herschkowitz, who died in 1989.

Barbara attended public school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Muskingum College in Ohio for one year, and graduated from Penn State University in State College in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Following graduation, she married Erwin "Herk" Herschkowitz, and they lived in Bolivia, South America, for 15 years. Barbara and her immediate family moved to Lebanon, Pennsylvania in 1972. She spent many summers at Chautauqua Lake, NY in Ashville.

At the time of her death, she was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, the Penn State Alumni Society, Mensa, Clan Sinclair USA, and the collegiate sorority Alpha Omicron Pi Alumnae Association.

She leaves behind daughters Patricia (Lebanon), and Janis (Hummelstown). Also surviving her are her sister Anne Miller of Warren County, niece Lynn Johnson, nephew Timothy Miller, and his children, Elizabeth, Jane and Luke.

Visiting hours will be at Porterfield-Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, Ltd.,, 890 Isabel Drive, Lebanon, Friday, March 2, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A graveside service at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, will held at the discretion of the family.
