Tribute & Message From The Family

Fred W. Warfel, 80, a lifetime resident of Conestoga passed away Sunday morning May 13, 2018 at home. Born in Conestoga on March 9, 1938 he was the son of the late Raymond S. and Mary Sangrey Warfel. Fred was the husband of Doris A. Stekervetz Warfel with who he married on July 27, 1963. They would have celebrated 55 years of marriage this coming July.

Fred graduated from Penn Manor, class of 1957. Fred served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. Fred worked for New Holland Machine, now Case New Holland as a welder for over 37 years, retiring in 2001.

Fred's ultimate dedication was the service to others and the community through Conestoga Fire Company and Conestoga Ambulance. At age 15 he began volunteering with the fire company hauling water until he was old enough to fight fires. He served as Chief, Engineer and Financial Secretary during his commitment with 5-3 over the past 65 years. Fred loved being able to show and teach his grandsons about fire fighting.

Fred ran with and was the Conestoga Ambulance for over 48 years until 2016. When Fred wasn't working his full time job, he was available for every Conestoga Ambulance call. He was a CPR and First Aid instructor, donating his time to educate others. He also served the Willow Street Ambulance on weekends and New Holland Ambulance during work hours.

Fred loved spending time with his family. Vacationing as a family was very important to him. He loved being able to take his wife, daughter, son in law and grandsons on cruises, Walt Disney World and the Outer Banks.

Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Fred will be deeply missed by his wife, Doris; his daughter, Dianna L., wife of Scott D. Good and grandsons, Derek K. and Ryan S. Good, all of Conestoga. Fred was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn and Calvin Warfel and sisters, Betty Herr and Beth Ann Warfel.
