James R. Dimitris, 84, of Manheim Township passed away Sunday evening, March 26, 2017 at the Gardens at Stevens after a brief illness. Born in Lancaster on March 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Gust H., Sr. and Catherine Groff Dimitris. Jim was the husband of Ruth A. Bleacher Dimitris with who he married on May 10, 1959.
As a young man, Jim worked for Garvin Shoe Repair. Jim served in the United States Army during the Korean Era from 1953 to 1955. After returning to Lancaster from the Military he opened his own shoe repair shop in Strasburg. He worked for General Cigar and the Heil Company in Lancaster. Jim loved riding motorcyles in his younger years and would often be found at Williams Grove watching the races.
Jim was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He read the bible faithfully and loved the Lord. He enjoyed listening to church hymns. Jim's family, especially his grandsons meant the world to him.
Jim will be missed by his wife Ruth, son; Michael J., husband of Michelle A. Dimitris of Lititz; daughter, Donna L., wife of James J. Moore of Hillsboro, Kansas; grandsons, Justin Moore of Topeka, Kansas, Luke Moore of Hillsboro, Kansas, Collin and Clayton Dimitris of Lititz and his great grandson, Bennett Moore of Topeka, Kansas. Jim is also survived by his brothers, Gust H. Dimitris, Jr. of Akron and Henry husband of Linda Dimitris of Lancaster; sisters, Grace Abel and Mary A. Dimitris, both of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Richards and brothers, Richard, Harold, William and George Dimitris and Robert Groff.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jim's funeral service on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11AM from the Calvary Baptist Church, 530 Milton Road, Lancaster, PA with Pastors John Jewers and Dale Palmer officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 9:30 to 11AM Friday. Interment will be held in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Please omit flowers, memorial remembrances may be made in Jim's memory to Calvary Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society for benefit of the Moore Hope Relay Team in honor of his grandson Luke Moore, c/o Donna Moore, 503 S.
